I never paid much attention to this old place-until yesterday!
This is an old house (anyone know how old?) that sat right at the edge of Gates Of Heaven Cemetery on the corner of Sackville Drive and Twelve Mile House Road. Is this Twelve Mile House? If not, what is/was Twelve Mile House? I am not really a big history buff.
I had a commenter on my Fbook page mention the Catholic Church owned the place and a lady lived there up until recently and she helped with the cemetery records.
Can anyone fill us in on the whole story? I wonder what is slated to go in that spot?

Yes the information is correct the home and land are owned by the Catholic Cemetery Commission and for more than 20 years they have run their office from there. It was however not an “elderly” woman who lived there, it was a friend of mine and her daughter. She has been running the office for 20+ years. I believe they will put another Crematorium on the land where the house was.
Thanks,Donna! I edited out the “elderly” part. LOL
I believe the ten mile house was a rather large old home in Bedford..just in behind where Macdonalds is now..and the home your speaking of now was known as the 8 mile house ..and some thirty or more years ago a man lived there whom I cant remember his name ran the grave yard
I thought it was the administration/sales building for the cemetery, if you needed a grave opened, needed information on the location of a grave marker or wanted to buy a plot or niche.
Darlene was the lady’s name who lived there (unless there were more) i was there one time talking to her, met her when MSN Chat was a “thing” in a chatroom and we had friends in common and would drop in to visit her.
I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure the 8 mile house (or however many mile house, haha) was actually the old building that used to be where they built the apartment building you can see in the background of these pictures on Old Sackville Rd. It was a stopping place for people travelling to and from the city when they went by horse and wagon originally, from what I had heard. It was one of the older locations that was left as the original property until the apartment building took it over and was build. I person would have rathered see the old place than the traffic jam causing thing that was put there… Just my opinion. 🙂
